My Dad turned 60 a few days ago and I wanted to share the tool box birthday cake I made him. Now, I am a self taught cake decorator. My mom was really good at decorating cakes. When she passed away I inherited all her cake decorating supplies. I never imagined I would decorate any kind of cake but the past few years I have given it a try decorating them for my kids and a few friends.
I decided on a tool box because my entire life my dad has been a hard worker and always fixing something, building something or helping someone. To do all those things he uses tools. I remember always looking at the large red tool boxes filled with tools growing up. Inside of the cake is a homemade carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.
Here are some up close pictures of the sides of the cake. I use molds to make chocolate tools, and luster dust to give it the metallic look. Everything was edible!
What would a birthday be without a birthday card….we needed a coordinating card at that. Here is my card I made him.
I used the Silver Foil Sheets and the Sparkle Embossing Folder in the Big Shot to make that cool background. The wrenches were made with punches. A 1″ Circle Punch, with the retired Word Window and small Scallop Circle Punch. I used Guy Greetings for my sentiments on the card.
Thanks for taking a look at the Tool Box Cake and coordinating card!
Those are really neat! Bet he loved them!
