If you need a handmade card for the guys in your life, this week’s Wednesday live is for you. I made 4 masculine-themed cards you can recreate at home, and every single one works for Father’s Day, birthdays, retirement, or any occasion that calls for a great card for a guy.
Watch the full replay above to follow along step by step, or keep reading for a look at everything we made tonight.
How to Make a BBQ Master Bundle Card (with the Two-Tone Flame Technique!)
The BBQ Master Bundle ($39.50, online exclusive) might be my new favorite masculine set. You get the stamp set and all the coordinating dies: the grill, tongs, oven mitt, flame, sausages, little shish kebabs, and more. For this card I stamped Grilling and Chilling on the front, added wood grain designer paper at the bottom, and used the die cuts to build out a little BBQ scene.
The two-tone flame is a technique worth knowing. Stamp the flame in Daffodil Delight, then dab Pumpkin Pie ink at the bottom of the stamp with a sponge dauber before pressing it down. The result is a beautiful gradient that looks so realistic! The inside gets a Happy Father’s Day sentiment, but swap it for Happy Birthday or Happy Retirement and this card works all year long.
A Sweet and Simple Masculine Card with the Waterside Retreat Designer Series Paper
This card was inspired by my sweet team member Wendy Hogue, who made it for our monthly team card swap and was generous enough to let me share it with you. The Waterside Retreat Designer Series Paper is the star of the show on this one. A simple layered layout, Misty Moonlight matting, a linen thread bow tied right across, and one clean sentiment. No fussy techniques needed. Sometimes the prettiest cards really are the sweetest and simplest ones.
If you are in the Owlet Card Club this month, good news: you are getting a full pack of this gorgeous paper in your kit!
Coastal Card Ideas with the Sunset Coast Bundle and Scenic Coast Specialty Paper
The last two cards both use the Sunset Coast Bundle ($55.75), and I am completely in love with this set. The dies include a lighthouse, mini sailboats, shells, a net, birds, and an arch, and the sentiments come in both cursive and block fonts.
For the third card I layered the lighthouse die inside the Everyday Arches for a silhouette effect that looks like you spent hours on it. The Scenic Coast Specialty Designer Series Paper adds this beautiful glass-like sheen to the background. That paper is currently sold out, but it is expected back at the end of June. The Sunset Sparkle Sequins in copper tones are the perfect finishing touch.
For the fourth card I used a two-step stamping trick for the water and sky: ink the stamp once in Blueberry Bushel, press it for the water, then flip it without re-inking for a lighter sky impression. Add a stamped sun in Crushed Curry, die-cut shells colored with Shimmer Brushes, a linen thread bow, and a few more sequins and you have a stunning card that looks so detailed but was genuinely simple to put together.
