4 Easy Cards with the Stampin’ Up! Shining Stars Dies

October 14, 2026 By Michelle

If you picked up the Shining Stars Dies this month, or you’re wondering if they’re worth adding to your order, this week’s live is for you. I made four cards with them, one for Christmas, two for birthdays or any celebration, and one for Veterans Day or the Fourth of July.

Watch the full replay above to follow along step by step, or keep reading for a look at everything we made.

What You Get with the Shining Stars Dies, the October Product of the Month

The Shining Stars Dies are the October Product of the Month. When you place a $75 order, you can add them on for only $5. You get 23 different star dies that all nest inside each other, and a few of them have stitching or little dots around the edge. I really feel like this would be at least a $35 set on its own, so it’s an incredible deal.

The Product of the Month is only available while supplies last, and we’ve already had one sell out early this year. That’s why I wanted to hurry and do a class on these while you can still get them.

When you order $75 or more with me this month, you’ll also get my Product of the Month tutorial emailed to you at the end of the month. I team up with eleven of my friends, and we each make projects with the dies, so you get 12 more ideas for cards, scrapbook pages, and more.

Country Christmas Card with the Santa’s Hat Stamp Set and Shining Stars Dies

Our first card is a sweet little country Christmas card. The card base is Basic Beige, layered with a woodgrain designer series paper. I cut one star out of the plaid paper from the Christmas Mice designer series paper, and a slightly bigger one out of a scrap of Cherry Cobbler. Layer them together with Dimensionals and pop them onto the card at an angle.

The sentiment is from the Santa’s Hat Stamp Set, which is $18. It’s a fairly simple set, but I love the words. I stamped Sending Christmas cheer in Cherry Cobbler on a little half-inch strip, but you can stamp Merry Christmas, Season’s Greetings, or whatever your little heart desires.

I finished it with a Linen Thread bow held on with a mini glue dot, plus three little gold metallic gems. Remember, always odd numbers! This would be so fun to make with different designer series papers to use up what you have.

Rainbow Star Birthday Card with the Softly Woven Embossing Folder

This card was inspired by the card I made for the Product of the Month tutorial. I loved that whole rainbow of colors. I die cut stars out of Coastal Cabana, Pumpkin Pie, Pretty Peacock, and Lemon Lime Twist, and layered them over a white panel embossed with the Softly Woven embossing folder. You can use any embossing folder you want.

Here’s a fun trick. Take two of the smaller dies, set one inside the other, and run them through together. You get a star outline and a little star inside it at the same time. Some stars go on Dimensionals and some go down flat, so you get lots of dimension.

The sentiment is Happy birthday from the Balloon Festoon Stamp Set, stamped in VersaMark on Basic Black and heat embossed with white embossing powder. I added a few sparkly silver sequins. I made this one so it works for anyone, but you can totally change the colors. If I made it for my son, I’d do blue and yellow for the University of Michigan. Stars are great for any age, for birthdays, graduations, and even scrapbook pages.

Pink Let’s Celebrate Card with a Cut-Out Star Window

For card three I used the new Painted Patterns designer series paper. It comes in the color families, brights, subtles, neutrals, and regals, and this pink is from the brights pack. I have it in all of the colors because it’s awesome.

I die cut a star right out of a white panel and put the pink polka dot paper behind it, so it peeks through. Then I popped the white panel up on Dimensionals over a Basic Black layer with a tiny eighth-inch border, which frames it really nicely. If you have a window sheet, you could add foam behind the star and turn it into a shaker card.

I was going to stamp Hip hip hooray from the Balloon Festoon Stamp Set, but that little stamp disappeared right off my desk while we were live! So I stamped Let’s celebrate instead, which works perfectly. Two little stitched stars cut from the pink paper and a few black dots from the Halloween dots finish it off.

Patriotic Star Strip Card for Veterans Day or the Fourth of July

This last card is my favorite trick of the night. I saw a card similar to this on Pinterest, so I can’t take credit for the idea, but I made the stars bigger. You start with a Crumb Cake card base and three strips of cardstock, Misty Moonlight, Cherry Cobbler, and Basic Beige.

Use the second smallest star die. Line it up at the bottom of each strip with the two bottom points straight, and run it through. It cuts the star right out and splits the strip apart, and that’s okay! Glue the pieces back onto the card with liquid glue, lining them up so the Crumb Cake shows through the star. Once it’s glued, nobody can tell it was ever cut apart.

I stamped Let’s celebrate from the Balloon Festoon Stamp Set in Early Espresso, right on the card base. If you smudge it, just stamp on a scrap, pop it up over the top, and you’re good. Then wrap Linen Thread around the card twice and tie a bow. This one would be perfect for Veterans Day, which is coming up in November.

Stampin’ Up! Products Used in This Video

Shining Stars Dies (Item #168600)
I can’t believe you get 23 nesting star dies for only $5 with a $75 order this month, and I used them on every single card.

Santa’s Hat Stamp Set (Item #168408)
This is a fairly simple set, but I love the Christmas words in it, like Sending Christmas cheer.

Balloon Festoon Stamp Set (Item #167602)
I used this set for the sentiments on three of the cards, and it has great words for birthdays and any celebration.

Linen Thread (Item #104199)
Linen Thread is a staple, kind of like your glue, and I tie little bows with it on so many of my cards.

Hi, I’m Michelle!

I’m an Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator based in Davison, Michigan, and the founder of Owl Star Stampers. I’ve been teaching sweet and simple card making since 2009, and I believe the best part of crafting isn’t the finished card. It’s the people you make it with.

In 2024 I hit a million dollars in career sales with Stampin’ Up!, a milestone reached by fewer than 1% of demonstrators worldwide. (Results like that aren’t typical, and I know how fortunate I am.) My team, the Owl Star Stampers, now includes 100+ demonstrators across the country, all united by a love of creativity and community.

Whether you’re a beginner looking to make your first handmade card or an experienced crafter looking for a consistent creative community, I’d love to have you here.
